Badgers Fall in Conference Contest

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. – The Johnson State College men's tennis team fell to MCLA 8-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Badgers go to 1-9 (0-4 NAC) while the Trailblazers move to 2-4 (2-3 NAC).

Doubles

The Trailblazers swept the doubles action to gain the early advantage.  Aaron Goldsmith and Rob Wabshinak won 8-2 over Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) and Richie Perez (Belmont, N.H.) for an early point.  Jared Freeman and Andrew Nygard squeaked out a point defeating Alex Harcourt (Colton, N.Y.) and Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) 8-6 in the second slot, while Robert Gair and Jeffrey Mason won 8-2 over Brady Rainville (Danville, Vt.) and Matthew Fogg (Morrisville, Vt.) to close out the scoring heading into singles play.

Singles

MCLA kept the momentum going, taking five of six singles matches. Goldsmith handled Lane dropping just a single game, 6-1, 6-0, while Wabshinak took the 6-0, 6-0 win over Harcourt. Nygard defeated Perez 6-2, 6-3, while Rainville dropped fourth singles 6-1, 6-1. Matthew Fogg defeated Robert Gair 6-4, 7-6 for the lone point for the Badgers. Holl fell in No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-1.
