JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College men's tennis team fell to Lyndon State 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match.
The Badgers go to 1-11 (0-5 NAC) on the season while the Hornets move to 2-9 (1-4 NAC).
Doubles
Lyndon took a 2-1 advantage after doubles. Gerrit Lane (Moretown, Vt.) and Richie Perez (Belmont, N.H.) fell to Tyler Hall and Jake LaCerda 8-2 in first flight singles, while Alex Harcourt (Colton, N.Y.) and Benjamin Holl (Philadelphia, Pa.) fell 8-4 in the second slot. Brady Rainville (Danville, Vt.) and Cory Arruda (Dartmouth, Mass.) closed out doubles with an 8-2 victory.
Singles
The teams split singles play, with each team taking three. Lane picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win in first singles over Hall, while Harcourt fell 6-4, 6-1 in second flight singles. Perez dropped a hard fought three set match, winning the first set 6-1, before dropping the next two sets 7-6 (8-6 tiebreaker), 6-2.
Rainville dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision in fourth singles. Holl and Fogg ended the day with victories in fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
Senior Celebration
Arruda, Harcourt, Holl, Perez and Rainville were all recognized prior to the match for playing in their final career match at home.
