Men's Tennis Drop Opening Match of 2020 Season to Spartans

CASTLETON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's tennis team opened up the 2020 season on the road against Castleton University on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans captured the non-conference win by a score of 9-0.

The Spartans jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead as all three doubles teams came out victorious. Dylan Griffin and David Cosman represented the Badgers in No.1 doubles but dropped the match to the Castleton duo of Jared Wheeler and Levi Williams by a score of 8-3. Patrick Bell and Kyle Robbins gave the No.2 doubles from Castleton a run but it wasn't enough as Rowan Kidder and Jacob Peet earned the win by a score of 8-6.

The Spartans swept through singles action as four players earned straight-set wins. Wheeler edged Griffin 6-0, 6-0 at first singles while Williams also earned a straight-set win at second singles. Spencer Butter, competing at third singles, dropped the second set as Bell got edged in the tiebrek after takining the first set by ascore of 7-6 and then getting outplayed by a scores of, 5-7, 10-8 victory over Bell.

The Spartans rallied in the final matches to earn the win and improve to 1-1 on the season. The Badgers move to 0-1 on the season and will face MCLA tomorrow at 10:00am.
