NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Johnson State College men's and women's track & field teams competed at the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship hosted by Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday afternoon. The women finished 6thas a team, with Brynn Cairns (Rutland, Vt.) collecting the first individual NAC Track & Field Championship in program history in the 3000-meter steeplechase. The men finished 7th as a team at the event.
Cairns took the lead on the final lap of the 3000-meter steeplechase and pulled away with a time of 12:41.12, topping her own school record. Emily McCarthy (Farmington, Maine) also scored for Johnson, setting a program record in the 5000 meter with a time of 20:43.01. Lily Denmeade (Quechee, Vt.) set a program record in the 400 meter with a time of 1:10.09, while senior Alyssa August (Granby, Conn.) ended her collegiate career by tying the program record in the 200 meter with a time of 31.90.
On the men's side, Kyle Duffy (Waterbury Center, Vt.) took 5th place in the 3000 meter steeple chase to score for Johnson and set a program record with a time of 13:19.22. Rasul Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) broke a program record in the javelin with a distance of 115'1''.
