Chargers Top Badgers in First Home Match

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University Johnson men's volleyball team fell to the Colby-Sawyer Chargers 3-0 in their first-ever match in Carter Gym on Wednesday night.

Colby-Sawyer started the first set out strong by going on a 11-1 run. Johnson tried to fight back, trading points at times but ended up falling 25-9 in the first set. 

The Badgers were able to find more of a rhythm in the second set, trading points between both teams. Colby-Sawyer tried to pull away after the Badgers called a timeout in the middle of the set, but Johnson was able to tie it 19-19 before the chargers called a timeout. Colby-Sawyer then went on a 6-1 run to win the set 25-20.

The start of the third set was similar to the previous, again trading points. Colby-Sawyer started pulling away as they went on a run in which three straight aces were recorded. The Badgers remained competitive in the set, finding ways to score. Despite Johnson keeping it tough for Colby-Sawyer, the Chargers were able to pull away with a score of 25-19 for a 3-0 on the match.

The Badgers were led by Austin Walters (Grantham, N.H) who contributed two kills and seven digs. Wyatt Moberg (Acton, MA) recorded two kills on a total of eight attacks. Moberg also contributed five digs for the Badgers. Jesse Streeter (Richmond, Vt.) was strong around the net earning five blocks with three of those blocks being solo blocks for the Badgers.

 Orlando Plagata and Eric Miller were the top contributors for the Chargers. Plagata led all players with 13 kills and 10 digs while Miller recorded nine kills and nine digs.

 The Badgers are set to host a tri-match this Sunday, February 10and will face Newbury College at 2:00pm and Southern Vermont College at 4:00pm.
