Nighthawks Defeat Badgers 3-0

 

 

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's volleyball team fell to the Newbury College Nighthawks 3-0 in their first of two matches played at Carter Gym Sunday afternoon.

The Badgers were led by Wyatt Moberg(Acton, MA) who contributed three kills, four assists and three digs. Randy Willette(Wolfeboro, N.H) recorded a team high 8 digs in the loss.

 The Nighthawks and the Badgers traded points for the first couple serves before the Nighthawks went on an impressive run, scoring seven unanswered points. The Badgers tried to fight back but due to a series of errors, weren't able to go on a run of their own and fell in the first set 25-13.

 The Nighthawks were able to continue their scoring output early on into the second set, registering five quick points to the Badgers one. The Badgers were then able to find a rhythm and came back to tie and then take the lead 10-8. The Nighthawks then took the lead back from  the Badgers, going up by three points. The Badgers were able to keep it close, but wasn't able to go on a run to take the lead back, falling in the set 25-19.

 The Badgers started slow again to start the third set, trailing eight to three. The Badgers were able to climb back and cut into the lead, but the Nighthawks pulled away again, forcing the Badgers to take a timeout with the score 15-9. Out of the timeout, the Badgers were still unable to find a way to stop their opponents from scoring, eventually losing the set 25-11.

 With the loss the Badgers fall to 0-7 on the season.
