Badgers Suffer Loss to Rivier, 3-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's volleyball team was defeated by Rivier 3-0 in their second match of the day on Saturday evening. The Raiders took the match in three sets by scores of 25-18, 28-26, and 25-14. 

The Badgers were led by Ryan Willette who recorded eight kills and nine digs. Jesse Streeter  added five kills and Jason Madrid provided a team high 18 assists. 

Down by eight points early in the set, the Badgers chipped away at the Raiders lead with kills by Streeter and Madrid and a service ace by Michael Weston. A service ace by Jason Madrid brought the Badgers within five halfway through the set. The Raiders edged the Badgers 9-7 to take the set 25-18 to earn a 1-0 advantage.

Tied up 21-21, a kill by Michael Weston gave the Badgers a one point lead over the Raiders in the second set. The Raiders answered with three straight points to take a 24-22 lead. A service error by Rivier brought the Badgers within one before back-to-back blocks by Jesse Streeter gave the Badgers a 25-24 lead. After the Raiders tied the set at 25-all, a kill by Jason Madrid off an assist by Wyatt Moberg to regain control. The Raiders closed the set on a 3-0 run to take the set 28-26.

The Raiders closed the match with a 25-14 victory in the third set to secure the sweep over the Badgers. With the loss the Badgers move to 4-7 on the season.

The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's volleyball team will host Endicott in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup on Wednesday, February 26th at 6:00pm.
