Badgers Take 3-1 Victory Over Bulldogs

JOHNSON, Vt. — The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men's volleyball team won three straight sets to seal a 3-1 victory over Dean College in their second match on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs started strong in the first set of the match, taking it 26-24 to take a 1-0 lead. Tied 18-all in the second set, two kills by Dean's John Kauffman and an error by the Badgers gave the Bulldogs a three point lead. Three straight errors by the Bulldogs allowed the Badgers to tie the set at 21-21. Bouncing back from an error, the Badgers closed the match on a 4-0 run to take the set 25-22 and tie the match 1-1. 

Back and forth throughout the third set, the Badgers closed the set with three kills from Ryan Willette and a kill by Wyatt Moberg to take it 25-22 and earn a 2-1 lead in the match.

An early run by the Badgers in the fourth set gave them control and they were able to win by a score of 25-17 to seal the victory over the Bulldogs. 

Ryan Willette led the Badgers with a game-high 12 kills and 12 digs. Jesse Streeter added 10 kills and three digs and Dominic Phelps added eight kills and five digs for the Badgers. Sophomore Wyatt Moberg recorded a game-high 18 digs and Jason Madrid notched an impressive 33 assists in the match.With the win, the Badgers move to 5-9 overall and will travel to SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday, March 4th for a non-conference matchup.
