Badgers Take One, Drop One Against Husson

The Johnson State College softball team split a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Minaert Field. GAME 1: Johnson 3 Husson 1

Husson  wasted no time securing the lead with a single run in the top of the first off Casey Lopes RBI. Allison Hill crossed the plate before the Badgers could tag out Hill in a run down.

Both teams kept each other scoreless over the next four innings until Anna Bingham crushed a ball to left field for a double, bringing Alex Bean and Kasey Craig home to give the Badgers the 2-1 advantage. In the bottom of the sixth, Kaitlynn Woodward  knocked a ball over the glove of left fielder Olivia Smith and over the fence for a homerun. With the run, the Badgers sealed the 3-1 win.

The Eagles registered seven hits to Johnson's 10. Each pitcher faced 29 batters with Andrea Williams picking up the win after throwing four strikeouts over seven innings. Alannah Healy was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs including one homerun.

Agger went 2-for-3 and Arsenault, Lyndsy Hoopingarner added a single for the Terriers. Morse threw a complete game three-hit shutout to pick up the win inside the circle while walking three and fanning ten.

GAME 2: Husson 10 Johnson 1

Husson's bats were hot in the second and final game of the night as scoring plays in the second inning, third inning and a rally in the fourth inning gave the Eagles the 10-1 advantage.

The fourth inning would prove to be the Eagles' best as the visitors scored six runs off of four hits. Johnson did get on the board thanks to a double from Shannon Grier and fast footwork from Williams who crossed the plate.

Senior hurler Connor Kelsey was credited with the loss while Alannah Healy picked up a win, giving her a split for the day.

Johnson returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Lyndon State for games at 3:00 and 5:00pm. The Eagles face Lyndon State Sunday, the 17th at 12:00pm.
