Badgers Sweep Hornets

The Johnson State College softball team swept North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe, Lyndon State in a mid-week doubleheader at Minaert Field. The Badgers won the first game 3-1 and turned around to complete a come from behind, walk-off win in game, 5-4. Johnson advances to 5-13 on the year and 3-3 in the NAC while Lyndon slides to 2-18 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

GAME 1: Johnson 3 Lyndon 1

Lyndon wasted no time securing the lead with a single run in the top of the first whenJulia Kearney singled to bring Shelby Sheridan home.

Both teams kept each other scoreless over the next two innings until Anna Bingham sent a laser to left field for a double, bringing Alex Bean home to tie up the ball game 1-1. The next at bat, Shannon Grier followed with an RBI off of a sac fly to centerfield, which brought Andrea Williams home to put the Badgers on top, 2-1. Even though the Badgers had the lead, that didn't stop Grier from sending a ball over the fence for a homerun, and the third and final scoring play of the game.

Johnson registered three hits to Lyndon's six, while Andrea Williams faced 26 batters in seven innings, while picking up the win. Williams struck out an impressive 10 batters while Lyndon's Shelby Sheridan was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs and three walks.

GAME 2: Johnson 5 Lyndon 4

Like game one, Johnson went behind early, but were able to pull ahead thanks to another big play from Grier; her double saw Williams and Bean cross home to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Lyndon answered with two runs of its own in the fourth, but it wouldn't prove to be enough as Williams singled to send Bean home and then another double from Grier set Anna Bingham home to clinch the 5-4 win.

Johnson returns to action on Saturday with a trip to Me.-Farmington for games at 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Lyndon State will face Norwich on Wednesday for a non-conference double-header at 3:00pm.
