Badgers Split Second Day in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Johnson State College softball team went 1-1 on their second day of in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Saturday. The Badgers picked up their first win of the season in a 6-3 victory over Alfred State (0-2) in game one, followed by a 15-0 loss to Rutgers-Camden (4-2) in game two.

The split moves Johnson's record to 1-3 on the season.

Johnson 6, Alfred State 3

Alfred State got out to the lead early when an Annie Corrao ground out brought Jillian Kahn in the bottom of the first to give the Pioneers the 1-0 lead.

The Badgers knotted things up in the third on an Anna Bingham (Island Pond, Vt.) RBI triple.

The Pioneers regained the lead in the fourth, when a Stormi Kruger doubled Annie Corrao in to take the 2-1 lead. Later in the inning, Kruger stole home to push the Alfred State lead to 3-1.

Johnson brought the score back even in their next at-bats, with another Bingham RBI double followed by a Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, Vt.) RBI triple.

The Badgers took the lead in the top of the sixth when Emily Graves (Montpelier, Vt.) reached on an error that brought Amanda Coulombe (Milton, Vt.) in to score.

Johnson added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a Hannah Leroux (Albany, Vt.) sacrifice fly that brought Bingham and Woodward in after an error by the leftfielder.

Woodward put the Pioneers away 1-2-3 in the seventh to finish off the 6-3 victory.

Woodward earned the win going seven innings and allowing three runs on six hits with one strikeout. Jordan Leonard was given the loss allowing four earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Rutgers-Camden 15, Johnson 0 (5 Innings)

The Scarlet Raptors jumped out early with three runs in the top of the first, including a two RBI single by Jalene Garcia.

Bingham picked up Johnson's only hit of the game in the bottom the first, but was caught stealing on the next at-bat to end the inning.

Rutgers-Camden opened thing up in the second, putting nine runs on the board. The inning was capped off by an Allie Jenkins two RBI triple that ended with Jenkins coming in to score on a throwing error.

In the third, Rutgers-Camden finished the scoring with a bases-loaded triple by Rachel Edwards.

Kendra Pfister kept the Johnson bats quite with a one hit, seven strikeout shutout win. Alannah Farley (Ryegate, Vt.) went two innings, giving up 12 runs on seven hits and seven walks. Leroux relieved Farley in the third, pitching three innings and allowing three runs on three hits with two strikeouts.

Johnson will finish their Myrtle Beach trip on Sunday, March 12th with games against Spalding and SUNY Canton and 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
