Johnson Falls to Husson in NAC Doubleheader

BANGOR, MAINE – The Johnson State College softball team fell to Husson University 8-0 and 8-2 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers fall to 1-11 (0-4 NAC) while the Eagles improve to 21-9 (5-0 NAC).

The Eagles picked up two in the bottom of the first on two RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead.

Husson added one more in the third on an RBI double by Arika Brochu to push their lead to 3-0.

The Eagles opened the game up in the bottom of the fourth, notching five runs to end the scoring at 8-0

Brochu picked up the win, allowing no runs on one hit with five strikeouts over five innings of work. Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, Vt.) suffered the loss, allowing 11 hits, eight runs (six earned), while striking out a pair in four innings.

Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the fourth, when Hannah Leroux (Albany, Vt.) knocked an RBI single to drive in Anna Bingham (Island Pond, Vt.) to take the 1-0 lead. In the next at bat, Alannah Farley (Ryegate, Vt.) reached on an error to bring Leroux around and stretch the lead to 2-0.

Husson answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to tie the game back at 2-2.

The Eagles added two more in the bottom of the fifth, then added four insurance runs in the sixth to take the 8-2 victory.

Jen Jones earned the win in relief, allowing no runs and no hits over three and a third innings with seven strikeouts. Leroux suffered the loss, giving up eight runs and eight hits over 6 innings.

Johnson will travel to SUNY Potsdam on Sunday, April 23rd in a non-conference doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
