Bears Take Two From Johnson

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Johnson State College softball team fell to SUNY Potsdam 5-2 and 5-1 in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The Badgers fall to 1-13 while the Bears improve to 8-19.

SUNY Potsdam 5, Johnson 2

The Bears struck first in bottom of the third inning. Potsdam's Brooke Falsion reached on a one out single, stole second and moved to third on an error. She was then bunted in by Megan Fish for a 1-0 lead.

The Bears scored three runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Sarah Hyland singled, Lyon walked and Falsion singled to load the bases. Jordan Ott followed with a walk to force in the first run. Fish then blooped a two-run double center field to make it 4-0.

Potsdam tacked on a final run in the bottom of the fifth. Lucy Condon singled, stole a base and then scored on an error to put the Bears up 5-0.

The Badgers took advantage of a hit and three errors to plate two in the top of the seventh to bring the final score to 5-2.

Fish allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out three in five innings to earn the win. Alissa McCauley struck out three, allowed one hit and two unearned runs in two innings. Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, Vt.) was tagged with the loss and allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits, four walks and two strikeouts in six innings.

Potsdam jumped out a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Lauren Brace led off the inning with a double to left. Two batters later Condon drove her in with a single up the middle. After Condon stole second, Erin Murphy singled to drive her in.
 
Chelsea Streeter led off the bottom of the fourth with an infield single and was pinch run for by Lyon. Lyon stole second and was bunted to third by Condon. Murphy followed with another RBI single to right to put Potsdam up 3-0.
 
With one out and runners at the corners in the bottom of the fifth, Brace singled to center to score Falsion. Meghan Dougherty scored Potsdam's final run later on the play after an error by Johnson.

Johnson State got on the board in the top of the seventh when Abby McRae (Milton, Vt.) reached on an error, which brought Kasie Craig (Newbury, Vt.) in to score.
 
Dougherty allowed one unearned run on four hits, three walks and two strikeouts to earn the win. Woodward was given the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits in three innings. Hannah Leroux (Albany, Vt.) went the final three innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits a walk and a strikeout.
