Johnson Splits with Farmington on Senior Day

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College softball team split a pair of 2-1 games to UMaine-Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers go to 2-17 (1-7 NAC) while the Beavers move to 9-21 (3-7 NAC).

Johnson 2, UMaine-Farmington 1 (9 Innings)

The pitching of Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, Vt.) from Johnson and Anastasia Albright from Farmington dominated the first seven innings, with each team advancing a runner as far as third only once.

The Beavers took advantage of the placed runner on second, with Amber Grady scoring on an error.

Johnson answered back in the bottom of the eighth when Allison Dennis (Groton, Vt.) scored on an error to tie the game at 1-1 and push things to the ninth.

After Woodward put the Beavers down 1-2-3 in the top of the inning, Jennie Moore (Peachem, Vt.) hit a walk off RBI infield single to score Alannah Farley (Ryegate, Vt.) and end the game at 2-1.

Woodward allowed no earned runs on five hits and one walk, while striking out three in nine innings to earn the win. Albright was tagged with the loss, allowing no earned runs on six hits, one walk and seven strikeouts.

UMaine-Farmington 2, Johnson 1

The Beavers struck early in game two when Alison Hamilton scored on an error in the top of the first to give UMF a 1-0 lead.

The Badgers got on the board in the fourth when Hannah Leroux (Albany, Vt.) doubled to right center to drive Anna Bingham (Island Pond, Vt.) in to score and tie the game 1-1.

Leroux settled in on the mound over the next three innings before loading the bases with one out in the top of the fifth, where she was relieved by Woodward. Woodward struck out her first batter faced then forced a ground out to second to get out of the jam.

Farmington regained the lead in the sixth when Alyssa Dillan scored on an error to give the Beavers a 2-1 lead.

Johnson was able to get the potential tying run to third in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to convert and took the 2-1 loss.

Albright allowed one run on four hits, no walks and five strikeouts to earn the win. Woodward was given the loss, allowing one unearned run on one hit in 2 2/3 innings.

Senior Celebration

Prior to the games, seniors Bingham, Moore, Amanda Coulombe (Milton, Vt.), Farley, Emily Graves (Montpelier, Vt.) and Leroux were honored for their senior day.
