SB: Badgers Take on MSOE and Concordia on Third Day of Spring Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Johnson State College softball team fell to Milwaukee School of Engineering (3-1) and Concordia College (Minn.) (3-3) on the third day of THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

GAME 1: JOHNSON 1, MSOE 9

The Raiders got on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a Caitlyn Moran sacrifice fly. MSOE put three more up in the inning to take a 4-0 lead after one. The Badgers got one back in the second when Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, Vt.) reached third on an error by the MSOE right fielder, then scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-1. The Raiders answered back in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double by Emily Snow. MSOE added one more in the fourth and three in the fifth to take the 9-1 victory.

Pitching

Liz Gale (1-0) picked up the win, allowing one hit and no earned runs over five innings of work. Mikaela Magnant (Franklin, Vt.) was tagged with the loss after giving up eight earned runs on 14 hits.

GAME 2: CONCORDIA 17, JOHNSON 5

Concordia took advantage of early mistakes by Johnson to pick up three runs in the top of the first inning. The Badgers answered in the bottom half of the inning when Emily Marshall (Malone, N.Y.) tripled to bring Abby McRae (Milton, Vt.) in to score and cut the lead to 3-1. The Cobbers padded their lead in the second and third to go up 12-1 after two and a half. After a Woodward double brought McRae around home to make it 12-2, Concordia scored five runs over the next two innings to lead 17-2 going into the bottom of the fifth. The Badgers offense sparked for three runs in the final inning but were unable to prevent the 17-5 defeat.

Pitching

Abby Haraldson (1-0) earned the win, giving up two earned runs on six hits in four innings of work. Woodward (0-4) got the loss after being chased in the second inning, allowing five earned runs on seven hits.
