SB: Badgers Come from Behind in Game Two to Split Doubleheader

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Johnson State College softball team fell to fell to Eastern University (4-1) and defeated Alverno (3-5) in their fourth day of THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida.

GAME 1: EASTERN 8, Johnson 0

The Eagles spread their eight runs over all five innings, shutting out the Badgers on route to the 8-0 victory.

Pitching

Meagan Quinn got the one-hit shutout win for Eastern, while Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, Vt.) was given the loss, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits.

GAME 2: ALVERNO 6, JOHNSON 8

After a scoreless first, the Badgers jumped out to the early 2-0 lead when Lindsey Laperle (Bethel, Vt.) and Mikaela Magnant (Franklin, Vt.) each drove in a run. The Inferno cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning, and then took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third. The teams traded scores in the fourth, with Johnson's run coming off an RBI double by Kasie Craig (Windham, Maine). The Badgers got within one in the fifth, with Woodward hitting an RBI triple then scoring on a Laperle groundout. After a scoreless sixth, the Badgers took back the lead on a bases-loaded triple by Nicole Mooney (Hillsborough, N.H.) down the right field line to make it 8-6. After getting two quick outs, the Inferno threatened with runners on first and second. Woodward was able to force a groundout, however, to preserve the 8-6 victory.

Pitching

Woodward (1-5) earned the win after throwing three scoreless innings in relief of Magnant, who allowed six runs on 10 hits in four innings of work. Lauren Greif (0-1) got the loss, allowing six runs on six hits.
