JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College softball team fell to the College of St. Joseph 8-1 and 11-5 in a non-conference doubleheader at Minaert Field on Friday afternoon.
GAME 1: COLLEGE OF ST. JOSEPH 8, JOHNSON 1
After a scoreless two innings, where Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, Vt.) got out of trouble with runners on third in both innings, the Fighting Saints got on the board with a solo home run by Lena Tirotta. CSJ stretched their lead in the fourth with three runs on four hits. The Fighting Saints added two more in the top of the sixth before Nicole Mooney (Hillsborough, N.H.) brought Woodward in on a double down the right field line in the bottom of the inning. CSJ tacked on one more in the seventh to take the 8-1 victory in game 1/
Pitching
Jenna Crowley (6-3) earned the win, pitching seven one-run innings while spreading four hits. Woodward got the loss allowing 6 earned runs on 10 hits.

GAME 2: COLLEGE OF ST. JOSEPH 11, JOHNSON 5
After a scoreless first, the Badgers got on the board first in the bottom of the second on a Kasie Craig (Windham, Maine) single that brought Mooney in to score. Sabrina Roberge followed that up with a bunt single that plated Mikaela Magnant (Franklin, Vt.) to take a 2-0 lead after two. The Badgers padded their lead in the third, with a two RBI single by Mooney and RBI single by Roberge. Starting pitcher Magnant ran into trouble in the fourth, allowing a run on a Timell Montgomery double and putting runners on second and third with one out. Magnant was able to pitch out of the jam, getting Vanessa Quigley to pop out to short and Arielys Rodriguez to fly out to right to get out of the inning.
The Fighting Saints stormed back in the fifth, putting up eight runs on four hits and three Johnson errors to take an 9-5 lead. CSJ picked up two more in the seventh to go on to the 11-5 victory.
Pitching
Crowley (7-3) picked up the win in relief, throwing three scoreless innings. Emily Marshall (Malone, N.Y.) was given the loss, allowing eight runs (one earned) in 1 2/3 innings.
