JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College softball team fell to UMaine-Farmington 3-1 and 8-6 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
GAME 1: UMAINE-FARMINGTON 3, JOHNSON 1
The Beavers struck first with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first to go up 1-0. UMF added one more in the bottom of the third with two runs scored on an error. The Badgers threatened in the top of the seventh, with a Mikaela Magnant (Franklin, Vt.) RBI double cutting the UMF lead in half. The Badgers were unable to bring in the tying run, however, and fell 3-1.
Pitching
Kailyn Hill took the win on the mound in seven innings, allowing six hits and one run. Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, Vt.) took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits.

GAME 2: UMAINE-FARMINGTON 8, JOHNSON 6
UMF jumped out to an early lead, picking up four runs on four hits. The Badgers answered back in the top second with five runs to take the lead. Sabrina Roberge (Irasburg, Vt.) got it started, bringing Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, Vt.) in to score. After an Annika Dyhrberg (Falmouth, Maine) groundout brought Magnant in to score, Abby McRae (Milton, Vt.) brought the Badgers within one on an RBI single. Nicole Mooney (Hillsborough, N.H.) gave the Badgers the lead later in the inning, capping the frame off with a two RBI single to right center.
After a scoreless third, the Beavers answered back in the fourth to tie it, then took a 7-5 lead in the fifth. The Badgers got back within one in the sixth, but UMF added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning and went on to the 8-6 win.
Pitching
Brianna McGrath got the win, pithing five scoreless innings in relief for the Beavers. Woodward go the loss in relief, allowing three runs. Magnant started for the Badgers and got a no decision after allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings of work.
