SB: Badgers Take a Pair of NAC Wins Over Lyndon

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College softball team defeated Lyndon State College 9-3 and 13-2 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Minaert Field.

GAME 1: JOHNSON 9, LYNDON 3

Lyndon started the scoring in the first with a pair of RBI singles by Hannah Choiniere and Madeline DeGroot giving the Hornets a 2-0 lead. The Badgers answered back in the bottom half of the inning with a Kaitlynn Woodward (White River, Vt.) RBI triple and Nicole Mooney sac fly bringing in two runs for the Badgers to tie the game at two.

Johnson took the lead with a six run second inning, with the big hit coming from Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, Vt.), who plated two runs with a single to left field. Each team added one more run late, with Emily Marshall (Malone, N.Y.) capping of the scoring with an RBI single to center in the bottom of the sixth to give Johnson the 9-3 win.

Pitching

Woodward picked up the win, allowing three runs while scattering ten hits and picking up a career high eight strikeouts in seven innings of work. Kiya Dewitt got the loss, allowing nine runs (four earned) on nine hits.

GAME 2: JOHNSON 13, LYNDON 2

The Badgers jumped out to a five run lead in the first with five hits, including a three-run triple by Savannah Dufresne (Swanton, Vt.). Johnson doubled their lead to 10 in the second, with Nicole Mooney (Hillsborough, N.H.), Marshall, Dufresne, and Kasie Craig (Windham, Maine) knocking in runs. Lyndon got one back in the top of the fourth on a Cassie Black sacrifice fly, but the Badgers answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning, including an RBI single from Craig. The Hornets added one more in the fifth but the Badgers came away with the 13-2 victory.

Pitching

Mikaela Magnant (Franklin, Vt.) picked up her first win of the season, throwing five innings and allowing one earned run on six hits with three strikeouts. Amber Roberts was tagged with the loss, allowing seven earned runs on 15 hits in four innings of work.
