Capital Offense Overcome Badgers

Clermont, FL- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's softball team dropped their first game of the day to Capital University by a score of 12-1.

A slow start for both teams offensively on Friday morning. As the first runs of the contest were scored in the third inning by Capital University. In the top of the first the Badgers held Capital University to just one hit. With the Badgers up to bat, Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, Vt.) and Savannah Dufresne (Swanton, Vt.) both made contact on the ball but resulted in pop outs for the Badgers. 

The second inning was similar to the first as the Badgers held the opposing team to just one hit but could not find themselves on base in the bottom of the second. In the third Capital started the inning strong as a Badger error in center field led to a double for Capital. Morgan Fadel next up for Capital was hit by a pitch and resulted in two capitals now on base. Kristen Mellot singled through the right field to earn two RBI's as she brought in the two Capital players on base for the first runs of the morning. The hot streak continued as a double to right center brought in to more Capital players. The Badgers closed the inning hitless with no runners on base in the bottom of the third as Capital lead 4-0.

In the top of the fourth the Badgers struggled defensively as Capital hit two home runs and scored eight runs to the Badgers one run as Kimberly Reville (Burke, NY) singled through right field to bring in Nicole Mooney (Hillsborough, N.H.) from second base.

The Badgers held Capital scoreless in the fifth inning but could not put any runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth to conclude the game for a score of 12-1 in favor of Capital University.
