Badgers Take First Game in NVU Doubleheader

NORTHFIELD, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson softball team faced off in the first NVU President's Cup Challenge match-up of the spring season against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Sunday evening. The Badgers prevailed winning by a score of 11-7.

The Badgers offense was strong as five different players recorded two hits apiece while holding the Hornets to only five hits for the contest. Mary Richardson recorded the first RBI of the game as a shot to right field brought in teammate Lindsey LaPerle. Kimberly Reville continued the production for the Badgers in the top of the second inning as she recorded a single RBI bringing in teammate Nicole Mooney. The Badgers took a 4-0 lead after the first two innings. The Hornets defense held the Badgers in the third inning as well as capitalized offensively recording their first run of the evening. 

In the top of the fourth Emily Marshall recorded a single to right field but advanced to second base off of a Hornet error which allowed Laura Dattilio and Juliana Reed to score. The Badgers continued their run as they scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning and held the Hornets scoreless. Reed secured the lone run in the sixth inning as she brought Nicole Mooney home on an RBI single. 

The Hornets made a final effort in the seventh inning scoring four runs, but it wasn't enough as the Badgers sealed the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 11-7. Emily Marshall completed a full game for the Badgers while recording eight strikeouts.
