Roos Tackle Game One of Conference Doubleheader

CANTON, NY- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson softball team traveled to SUNY Canton on Tuesday afternoon to face off in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader. The Roos captured the first contests winning by a score of 9-1.

Strong second and third inning's offensively set the tone for SUNY Canton. The Roos scored three runs in the second inning while following up with four runs in the third. Shaylyn DeVito reached second base on an error by the Badgers allowing Jaedyn Ossont to score. Alicia Evans scored on a wild pitch, while Brittany Miner grounded out to Nicole Mooney but allowed for DeVito to score from second base.

Three players recorded hits for the Badgers, Mooney provided the only RBI off a hit that resulted in a double for the Badgers. The shot to center field allowed for teammate Laura Dattilio to score from first base. The Badgers recorded a hit off of a single down the middle by Kimberly Reville but it wasn't enough as the Roos closed the inning. Teya Johnson recorded the first out by making a catch in right field but it wasn't enough as Jaedyn Ossont hit a two-run homerun to put the Roos up 9-1, eventually closed the game in five innings.

With the loss the Badgers fall to 3-14 overall and 2-1 in North Atlantic Conference play. The SUNY Canton Roos improve to 11-14 overall and 4-3 in the NAC.
