JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson softball team played their first home games of the season on Minaert Field in a North Atlantic Conference contest against the Husson University Eagles. Strong bats excelled the Eagles to the win as they took game one of the doubleheader by a score of 16-0.
The Eagles started off hot from the plate, scoring 12 runs in the first two inning while holding the Badgers hitless and striking out the side. The Badgers struggled to find a rhythm offensively through the first few innings but only got better on the defensive end as they held the hot bats of the Eagles to only one run after the third and fourth inning. In the final stint of action, the Eagles capitalized offensively and found a way to get players on base as they scored three runs and held the Badgers to zero runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Badgers were led by Nicole Mooney who recorded two hits. Mary Richardson provided one hit for the Badgers and Emily Marshall earned two strikeouts on the mound for the Badgers.
Eagles pitcher, Jen Jones led the way with five strikeouts in two innings pitched. Brooklynn Scott had two hits with three runs scored.
