NVU-Johnson Drops Doubleheader of Senior Day

JOHNSON,Vt.-The  University of Maine Farmington Beavers beat the Northern Vermont University-Johnson Badgers 14-0 in the first game of the scheduled doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. It was Senior Day as Badgers Emily Marshall, Kaitlin Boucher, Mary Richardson, and Kayla Moore were honored before the game. The Badgers were edged in game two of the conference doubleheader dropping the game by a score of 11-0 to conclude the home contests at Minaert Field for the 2019 softball season.

Game 1

The Beavers scored early in the game with an RBI double in right field by Alyssa Dylan. In the second inning, Beavers Alyssa Dillan and Melissa Veitch both hit RBI's to add to their score, making it 3-0. The Badgers struggled to find a rhythm offensively as they Boucher earned the only hit for the Badgers.

Headed into the third stint of action, the Beavers went on a tear offensively scoring eight runs, jumping out to a solid 11-0 lead.   Beavers pitcher Kailyn Hill was able to control the majority of the contest as she struck out 11 Badgers. The defensive effort from the Beavers resulted in a five-inning contest.

Marshall pitched a complete game for the Badgers striking out three. 

Dillan lead the way for the Beavers offense, tallying four RBI's on three hits. Melissa Veitch, Haley Holt, and Makayla Wilson contributed two RBI's a piece.

Game 2

The Badgers were led by Marshall and Boucher in game two. The senior duo each recorded a hit in the contest. Nicole Mooney saw her first reps of the day on the mound, but the Beavers efforts were too strong as they jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning while holding the Badgers scoreless. The Beavers continued to send runners home in the third inning as they had their best inning recording four hits and driving in five runs. The Beavers eventually came away winning by a score of 11-0.

Brianna McGrath pitched a complete game while only allowing two hits. McGrath recorded eight strikeouts Mooney pitched a total of five innings for the Badgers and earned four strikeouts.

The Badgers are set to travel to Orono, Maine where they will face the University of Maine Presque Isle on Saturday, April 27.
