Badgers Fall to Owls in Doubleheader

ORONO, Me. — The University of Maine at Presque Isle defeated the Northern Vermont University-Johnson Badgers by a score of 11-0 in the first game of their doubleheader at the University of Maine at Orono on Saturday afternoon. The Owls edged the Badgers in game two by a score of 9-2, concluding the 2019 NVU-Johnson softball season. 

Game 1

The Owls opened the game with a 4-0 lead after the first inning off hits by Delanie Strout and Marissa Valdivia-Reagle. In the second inning, Emily Page hit a home run and Sarah Duncklee hit an RBI to extend the Owls' lead to 6-0. 

Entering the third inning the Owls continued their offensive barrage, tacking on five more runs. Senior Kaitlin Boucher (Barre, Vt.) led the Badgers with one hit in the fifth inning. The defensive effort from the Owls resulted in a five-inning contest.

Nicole Mooney (Hillsborough, N.H.) pitched a complete game for the Badgers. Jordan Hansen and Sarah Duncklee led the Owls' offense, tallying four RBI's on two hits. 

Game 2

The Badgers were led by Kimberly Reville (Burke, N.Y.) with one run and Laura Dattilio (South Burlington, Vt.) and Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, Vt.) with one hit a piece. Mooney pitched her second complete game of the day for the Badgers. The Owls continued to overpower the Badgers offensively, scoring nine runs in the first three innings. Reville's run put the Badgers on the board in the fourth inning, making the score 9-1 in favor of the Owls. 

Three players pitched for the Owls and allowed only two hits. Marissa Reagle recorded two strikeouts and pitched a total of three innings. Mooney pitched four innings for the Badgers and allowed six hits.
