WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - Johnson State women's basketball was bested by Regis College (Mass.) 90-48 on Sunday in the consolation game of the Eastern Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University. The Badgers are now 1-2, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference while Regis improves to 1-1, 0-0 The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Johnson was led by freshman guard Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) who had16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Senior guard Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt./Milton) was also in double-figures with 10 points. Both KC Cousineau (Bristol, Vt./Mount Abraham) and Madeline Pritchard (North Clarendon, Vt./Mill River) had 6-point, 7-rebound efforts.
Regis saw Claire Ramonas score a game-high 19 points and grab a team-high six rebounds. Lauren Kimble added 11 points while both Alex Chace and Stefanie Wozmak chipped in with 10.
After falling behind 23-7 the Badgers went on a 14-7 run capped by a Deuell 3-pointer to pull with nine at 30-21 with 5:14 left to play in the first half. But the Pride would close the half on an 18-2 run of their own to make the score 48-23 at the break.
Robertson would score 11 of her 16 in the second half canning 2-of-3 3-point field goal attempt and 5-of-6 free throw attempts.
In the title game of the tournament the host Warriors beat Montclair State 75-68.
Johnson will now face SUNY Canton on Tuesday at 5:00 pm while Regis moves on to host Westfield State on December 2 at 5:00 pm.
