Canton Steals 67-64 Win From Johnson

CANTON, N.Y. - Johnson State College women's basketball led for most of the evening but saw the host SUNY Canton Kangaroos come from behind in the final minutes to pick up a 67-64 non-conference victory.  JSC is now 1-3 overall, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference while Canton improves to 2-3 overall.

Johnson was led by senior guard Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt./Milton) who scored 24 points and hit four 3-pointers while freshman guard Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) knocked down five 3-pointers en route to a 19-point night.  Sophomore wing Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples) added 12 points and six rebounds.

Canton's Kaitlyn Myers scored 23 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds and Jenise Torres and Elissa St. Germain came off the bench to score 11 and 10 points respectively.

Johnson jumped out to an early 12-5 lead behind a pair of 3-pointers from both Roberton and Deuell.  The Kangaroos would tie the game at 24 all following a pair of St. Germain free throws with 4:02 left in the first half.  JSC would run off 10 straight points to take their largest lead of the night but Canton scored the final four points of the half to close the gap to 34-28 at the break.

The Badgers would push the lead back out to 10 at 49-39 but Canton would outscore the visitors 15-7 over the next 10 minutes to cut the lead to two.

A Torres jumper with 1:47 remaining would give Canton their first lead of the night but McCullock would answer with a jumper of her own to tie the game at 64-64 with 1:15 left in the game.

Myers would drive the right lane and score a basket and add a free throw for the 3-point play with :26 left to play to give Canton the eventual winning margin.

Johnson was able to get a decent look at a 3-pointer from Courtney Shea (Panama City, Fla./Arnold) but the shot would fall short.

Johnson will now step into conference action in their next game on Thursday, December 1 at 7:30 pm while Canton moves on to play Clarkson at home on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
