Colby-Sawyer Tops Johnson 88-70

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College was defeated on Saturday afternoon by visiting Colby-Sawyer College in women's basketball by the count of 88-70.  The Chargers knocked down 10 of 21 3-point field goals on the day to pick up the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) to move to 6-1, 2-0 NAC while Johnson falls to 1-5, 0-2 NAC.

Ashley Fruzzetti (Raynham, Mass./Carver) led Colby-Sawyer with a 23-point effort that included five 3-pointers while Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass./Drury) went for 21 points.  Cailin Bullett (Millsbury, Mass./Millbury) recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds and Sammi Lehr (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset) added 10 points. 

Johnson first-year guard Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) canned six 3-point field goals on her way to 23 points while senior guard Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt./Milton) tossed in 13 points.  Freshman guard Kassidee Keefe (Derby Line, Vt./North Country) chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Chargers jumped out to an 18-4 lead before Johnson found their legs but indeed then did and the Badgers were competitive the rest of the way.  Johnson would trail 48-31 at the half with Robertson scoring 16 in the first 20 minutes.

After falling behind 81-52 with 7:23 remaining Johnson State was able to close the game on 18-7 run to provide the final 18-point margin.

Johnson will now host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Monday at 5:30 pm, a non-conference tilt, while Colby-Sawyer moves on to play at Suffolk University on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
