Deuell Nets 1,000th, MMA Slips By Badgers 58-50

CASTINE, Maine - Senior guard Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt./Milton) (pictured) surpassed the 1,000 career point mark in the second half as Johnson hung close throughout but fell to Maine Maritime Academy 58-50 on Saturday.  The Badgers complete their season with a 4-21 overall record and a 2-16 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) record.  MMA improves to 13-12, 10-8 NAC.  The Mariners will enter the NAC playoffs as the #5 seed and will play at #4 New England College on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.

Deuell wrapped up her stellar individual career at Johnson by scoring a game-high 26 points and recording four steals, four assists, and three boards.  Deuell's 999th and 1,000th points came on a pair of free throw attempts with 14:59 remaining.  Freshman guard Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) would drill 6-of-10 3-point field goals en route to 23 points and freshman center KC Cousineau (Bristol, Vt./Mount Abraham) grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Mariners received 17 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks from freshman center Bekah Campbell, 16 points from Maggie Smith and Leah Jackson just missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.

After a Deuell 3-pointer with 5:46 gave Johnson a 21-20 lead the Mariners would finish the half on a 12-4 surge with five points coming from Jackson in the sequence.

Johnson trailed for the duration of the second half but finished the game and their season a high note with a 12-2 run to finish out the game and make the final 68-60.

Deuell finishes her career atop many of the Johnson State statistics list.  She is the 7th Lady Badger to surpass the 1,000 career point mark and is among the leaders in 3-point field goals, assists, and steals.
