Johnson rolls by Southern Vermont 72-52

MILTON, Mass. - Johnson women's basketball picked up their first win of the young season by rolling past Southern Vermont College 72-52 in the consolation game of the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.  The Badgers are now 1-1 and SVC stands at 0-2.

Freshman Mary Richardson (Vernon, Vt./Brattleboro) scored a game-high 23 points and collected five steals to lead four Badgers in double-figures and also earning all-tournament team recognition.  Sophomore Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) had 15 points, seven steals, and six rebounds for JSC while freshman Lazrin Schenck (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) had 13 points and seven boards.  Rookie Brittany Moody (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) chipped in with 10 points.

The Mountaineers received 15 points and 10 rebounds from Amber Flagg.

The Badgers never trailed starting the game on an 11-2 run and would lead by as many as 20 in the first half at 41-21 with 2:58 left in the first half and taking a 43-28 lead into halftime.

Johnson would push the lead to 22 at 50-28 following a Moody free throw with 17:01 left in the game.  SVC would not get any closer than 12 points the remainder of the game.

Johnson moves on to face SUNY Canton on Tuesday at 3:00 pm while Southern Vermont will now play at New England College on November 27 at 6:00 pm.
