Chargers topple Johnson in women's basketball

NEW LONDON, N.H. - Johnson State College women's basketball saw host Colby-Sawyer College surge to a big first half lead and earn a 92-45 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory on Saturday.  The Badgers are now 2-5, 0-2 NAC while the Chargers improve to a 3-3, 1-1 NAC.

Johnson received 11 points from freshman guard Mary Richardson (Vernon, Vt./Brattleboro) to with six rebounds and three assists while sophomore guard Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) chipped in with 10 points, five boards, and four assists.  Sophomore center Maddie Pritchard (North Clarendon, Vt./Mill River) (pictured) had six points.

Colby-Sawyer put five in double-figures led by senior sharpshooter Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) who scored a game-high 20 points.  Senior Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) had a strong all-around game with 14 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds while sophomore Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) also scored 14.  Junior Ashley Fruzzetti (Raynham, Mass.) added 10 points and freshman Alyssa Keefe (Littleton, N.H.) had a double-double off the Charger bench with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

After missing their first shot of the game the Chargers would connect on 10 of their next 11 to jump out to a quick double-digit lead.  They would go on to shoot 56% (25-45) from the field in the first half and take a 59-20 lead into the break.

The Badgers did a much better job on the defensive end in the second half holding Colby-Sawyer to 30% (13-44) shooting over the final 20 minutes.

Johnson will move on to play at non-conference foe Middlebury College on Thursday night at 5:00 pm while Colby-Sawyer will host Suffulk University in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
