Badgers see Lyndon pull away for 66-48 women's basketball win

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. - The Johnson State College women's basketball team suffered a 66-48 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road loss on Saturday at Lyndon State College to conclude their fall semester schedule.  The Badgers are now 2-7, 0-3 NAC while Lyndon improves to 2-4, 1-2 NAC.

Freshman guard Mary Richardson (Vernon, Vt./Brattleboro) paced Johnson with 12 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists while freshman forward Lazrin Schenck (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) (pictured) came off the bench to supply 10 points and four boards.

LSC was led by senior Donna Lawson (Irasburg, Vt./Lake Region) who came of the Hornet bench to notch a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds.  Junior Mary Watson (Eliot, Maine/Marshwood) had eight points including a pair of 3-pointers to go with four steals.

The hosts jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead but the Badgers would answer with a 7-0 run of their own to tie the game with 14:27 left in the half.

A jumper by sophomore guard Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) would give Johnson their first lead of the day at 20-19 with 6:52 left in the half.  Johnson would gain a 25-22 lead but Lyndon closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 30-25 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

JSC would keep within striking distance after a Richardson jumper made the score 46-39 with 11:33 left to play but the Hornets would take control with a 17-5 surge over the next seven plus minutes and eventually earn the win.

Johnson was able to force 23 Lyndon turnovers on the day but the Hornets 55-36 rebounding advantage and defensive effort holding JSC to a 29% shooting proved to be too much.

The Badgers will now focus on final exams and not play again until January 4 at 5:30 pm at home versus NAC opponent University of Maine-Farmington.  Lyndon will host Plymouth State University on Saturday, December 15 at 1:00 pm, a non-conference tilt, in their final outing of the semester.
