Robertson Leads Badgers to a 66-58 NAC Win

Johnson, Vt. – The Johnson State women's basketball team outscored North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe Green Mountain College 66-58 Saturday evening.  Johnson State ended a 10-game skid to advance to 3-13 overall and 1-10 in NAC play while the Eagles slip to 3-11 on the season and 1-8 in the NAC.

Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt. / Burlington) led the Badger's offense with 24 points, 7 boards and went 9-16 from the free throw line while freshman guard Mary Richardson (Vernon, Vt./Brattleboro)  had a double-double notching 14 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and two assists.  Freshman Lazrin Schenck (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) contributed nine points to the Badger's win.

For the Spartans, senior guard Chelsea Paul (Northville, N.Y.) dominated the Eagle's offense with a double-double scoring a game-high 31 points, snagged 11 boards and shot 8-13 from the free-throw line.

The Eagles opened up the first half with a Paul 3-pointer just eight seconds into the game. Johnson's Robertson banked the Badger's first basket a minute later making it 3-2 GMC advantage. With 6:17 left, the two teams stood at 25-17 GMC advantage when Robertson and Emily Jones (Craftsbury, Vt. / Craftsbury) sunk two points apiece to close the gap on the visitor's lead. The Eagles would lead as much as eight points in the first half but the Badgers battled to tie the game up twice. After a back and forth, Green Mountain powered through the last minute of the half scoring four points and heading into the locker room ahead 33-26.

Johnson started off the second half strong with a Robertson jumper and a 3-pointer from Emily Comins (Orleans, Vt. / Lake Region) making the score 31-33. With 15:54 left Johnson's Schenk made a lay-up to bring the tally to 38-35. The Eagles would spend the next 14 minutes trying to take back the lead, but the Badger's momentum proved to be too much as the Badgers held the lead for the rest of the half. Johnson sunk a free-throw to end the game 66-58.

Johnson will suit up for an away game against New England College next Thursday at 7:30 for their next NAC match-up. Green Mountain College will travel to Castleton State College for another NAC face-off.
