Johnson Tops Lyndon 78-72

Johnson, Vt. - Johnson women's basketball picked up their second win in a row outscoring North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe Lyndon State College 78-72.  The Badgers are now 5-15, 2-11 NAC and Lyndon stands at 5-14, 3-10 in NAC play.

Sophomore Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) paced the Badgers by scoring a game-high 26 points and grabbing 10 boards for a double-double. Freshman Lazrin Schenck (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) notched 15 points and seven boards while freshman Mary Richardson (Vernon, Vt./Brattleboro) contributed 16 points and teammate Ashley Jones (Jeffersonville, Vt./Lamoille) chipped in 12 points towards the win.

For the Hornets, Dannika Dobrowski (Plainfield, Vermont / Twinfield Union) came off the bench to contribute a team-high 15 points while guards Emily Gray (Quincy, Mass. / North Quincy High) and Chelsea Watson (Eliot, Maine / Marshwood High) both added 12 to Lyndon's effort. The Badgers pulled out to an early 15-9 lead after just seven minutes of play in the first half. Despite Lyndon's efforts, the Hornets would never pull ahead of the Badgers. After two scoreless minutes, the Hornets closed the gap to four points with two free-throws from Lyndon's Emily Strese (Gilmanton, New Hampshire/Gilford High). Lyndon closed out the last 2 minutes of the half with a 5-2 run, grabbing a 31-30 halftime lead over the Badgers.

Schenck opened up the second half for the Badgers with a 2-point jumper followed quickly by a Robertson lay-up and a 2-point jumper from Emily Comins (Orleans, Vt. / Lake Region ) to bring the tally to 37-30 with 18:39 remaining in the half.  The Hornets attempted to close the gap but Johnson would push the lead to 13 at 49-36 with 14:57 to go in the contest.  Lyndon would come within five points but ultimately would not overtake the hosts, ending the game 78-72.

Johnson will travel to Maine for a set of games next weekend in their next outings with tilts at Thomas College on Friday and at the University of Maine-Farmington on Saturday.  Lyndon moves on to play at Middlebury College on Tuesday at 5:30 pm.
