Eagles Roll Past Badgers 65-46

JOHSON, Vt.—Husson University rolled past Johnson State Friday night 65-46 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory.  The Badgers slid to 5-19 on the season and 2-15 in conference play while Husson advances to 8-15, 8-9 in the NAC.

The Badgers' Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) came off the bench to lead the team earning a game-high 16-points while freshman teammate Deanna Brandstetter (Vernon, Vt./Brattleboro) supplied nine points and four boards for the visitors.  Sophomore Ashley Jones (Jeffersonville, Vt./Lamoille) paced the Badgers on the glass with seven boards.

For the Eagles, Rebecca Young (Concord, Vt.), Victoria McIntyre (Mars Hill, Maine) and Stephanie Comstock (Bangor, Maine) all contributed 13 points towards Husson's effort. Amanda Johnson (Skowhegan, Maine) tallied 10 points on the night.

The Badgers set the game in motion after Brandstetter banked a two pointer with a long 18:45 left to play. Husson answered within the minute with a three point jumper followed by a fast basket from Johnson's Brandstetter. For the next 11 minutes, the pace slowed down for both teams as they settled into their defensive rhythms. With just 4 minutes to go in the opening stanza, the teams were within just one point of each other at 16-15, Husson's advantage.  Over the next three minutes the visitors would go on a 7-0 run to bring the score to 23-15 as the teams headed into the locker rooms for halftime.

The Eagles picked up their pace from the outset and would see their biggest lead of the game in the second half leaving the Badgers trailing by as much as 20 points. A lay-up from Jenessa Swainbank (Enosburg, Vt./Enosburg) with 8:26 left in the half marked a small comeback from the Badgers, leaving them just 10 points shy of the Eagles lead. Four minutes later, Husson led 59-39 following a three point jumper from McIntyre. The buzzer sounded with a final tally of 65-46 for an Eagle's victory.

The Badgers and the Eagles will both return to action tomorrow. Johnson State will face the Maine Maritime at 3:00pm for their final game of the season while Husson will a travel to Lyndon State.
