Colby-Sawyer Tops Johnson State, 64-41
Sophomore Katie McCarthy  scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Colby-Sawyer College women's basketball team to a 64-41 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over Johnson State Thursday evening.  The Chargers improve to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference while Johnson State falls to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the NAC.
 
McCarthy scored 15 of her game best 18 in the first half on 4-8 shooting and 6-6 from the free throw line. She added four assists and five rebounds in the game. Junior Kelsey Bragdon scored 14 points and brought down a game-high nine rebounds. Junior Kelsey Cahill was the third Charger to reach double figures with 11 points.
 
Johnson was led by the team's leading scorer junior Brittany Robertson. She scored 12 points and added five caroms. Freshman guard Eliannie Sola had 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Freshman Sarah Voorhis contributed five points and a game best five steals.
 
Colby-Sawyer was leading 16-11 at the 11:15 mark in the first half when McCarthy took over the game. She scored the Chargers' next nine points to give the home team its largest lead of 13 at 25-12. Colby-Sawyer held a comfortable lead for the next few minutes before the Badgers ended the frame on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 34-28 at the break. Half of the Chargers' points came off of 15 Johnson miscues. The Badgers shot the ball at a 47.6% clip, but trailed due to the turnovers.
 
The Chargers' defense stepped up in the second half limiting Johnson to five field goals and 17.9% from the floor. Colby-Sawyer slowly built its lead, which peaked at 23 with the final score of 64-41.
Colby-Sawyer concludes first semester play at Lyndon on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.  The Badgers will host New England College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the final game before the New Year.
