Johnson Falls to Middlebury

Middlebury cruised to a 73-46 win over Johnson State (0-4) in the team's home-opener in Pepin Gym. Middlebury returns to action when it hosts Norwich on December 2nd, while Johnson visits Green Mountain on the 3rd.

An 11-0 run beginning at the 14:47 mark of the first half gave the Panthers a 16-4 advantage with 12:19 remaining. Middlebury later went on a 7-0 spurt capped by a three from Sabrina Weeks to open up a 17-point lead. Ashley Goddard answered with a three for the Badgers at the 6:11 mark, but that would be their final bucket of the half. The Panther defense held Johnson State to 0-7 shooting with five turnovers in that time, taking a 40-12 lead into the break. Middlebury shot 46.7% from the floor in the first half, holding their opponents to 17.9%.

The Middlebury defense didn't let up in the second half, holding Johnson without a hoop for a 10:42 span beginning at the 18:24 mark. The lead ballooned to as many as 44 before the Panthers emerged with a 73-36 win.

Alexis Coolidge led all scorers with 16 points, while adding seven rebounds on 6-7 shooting from the floor. Elizabeth Knox made all four of her attempts from the floor, finishing with 14 points, while Weeks added 11. Sarah Kaufman chipped in with seven points, nine rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.

Goddard paced the Badgers with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Nicole Menard dished out four assists.
