Badgers Fade in Second Half Against Farmington

Johnson State College women's basketball dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tilt 80-67 to visiting Me.-Farmington in Carter Gym on Friday night.  With the loss, the Badgers slide to 1-5 on the young season and 1-1 in conference play while UMF advances to 2-4 overall and 2-0 in the NAC.

Kelly Pomerleau led the visitors with a game-high 18 points which was crafted out of a 9-for-10 night shooting from the field. Her teammate Meghan Smith posted 16 points in the winning effort while Bianca Stoutamyer tallied 12 points on the night.

Sarah Voorhis led the Badgers by posting 17 points courtesy of a 7-for-8 day shooting. Kasey DeGreenia and Brittany Robertson chipped in 13 and 10 respectively.

The Beavers opened up the day with a jumper from Smith which Domonique Carter-Stanley quickly answered getting the Badgers on the board. Neither team could bucket the ball for the next three minutes until the Beavers sank a three to put them up 5-2. By the 8:36 mark, the teams were knotted 15-15 until Johnson's Voorhis spurred a six point run that put the Badgers ahead 15-21. With both teams sufficiently warmed up, the teams swapped one point leads four times in the last 1:25 of the opening stanza. Despite a timeout from Johnson with :15 to go, the Beavers closed out the half up 29-28.

Johnson held close to Me.-Farmington after the intermission, but allowed the gap between the teams to grow wider and wider as the half ticked on.  UMF pulled away for good at 14:21 earning a four point lead that grew to as much as 14 points.  As the Beavers pulled away, the Badgers lagged unable to make anything from the paint. The Beavers wrapped up the half up by 13 with a final score of 80-67.

The Beavers went 22-50 (44%) overall to Johnson's 22-67 (32.8%).

Johnson hosts Thomas College tomorrow at 1 p.m., while Me.-Farmington will travel to Lyndon tomorrow at 1:00pm.
