Eagles Edge Badgers

The Husson University women's basketball team defeated the Johnson State Badgers 68-61 on Friday night at Newman Gym. The Eagles improve to 9-6 (7-2 North Atlantic Conference), while the Badgers fall to 5-9 (5-4 NAC).

Stephanie Comstock led Husson with 12 points, seven rebounds, one assist, and one steal on the night. Samira Cruz added 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, and one steal for the Eagles, and Katy Brochu had 10 points, seven rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block.

The Eagles led 33-18 at the half, seeing strong play from Comstock and Chandler Guerrette. The team shot 28.6 percent from the field to Johnson State's 25 percent, and they shot 45.5 percent from behind the arc and 80 percent from the free throw line, where the Badgers shot 27.3 percent from both.

In the second half, the Badgers fought hard, outscoring the Eagles 43-35, but it wasn't enough. Johnson State's Brittany Robertson had a game-high 16 points, and Ashley Goddard had 10 points. Dominique Carter-Stanley had a team-high seven rebounds.

Husson will turn around to host Lyndon State at 1 PM tomorrow. Johnson State will travel to Maine Maritime for a 12 PM Saturday tip-off.
