Badgers Storm Past Cadets

Juniors Allyson Bruckner and Domonique Carter-Stanley combined for 33 points to lead the Johnson State College women's basketball team to a 71-61 win against the Norwich University Cadets on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.

With the win, the Badgers improve to 2-4 overall, while the loss drops the Cadets to 4-2 on the year.

Bruckner totaled 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor including a 5-9 performance from outside the arc, to go along with the 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the year. Carter-Stanley netted 16 points on a 5-of-12 effort from the floor to go with 6-6 shooting from the charity stripe.

Five additional players scored for Johnson with juniors Kasey DeGreenia and Sarah Voorhis dishing out 12 and 10 points respectively. Nicole Menard and Ashley Goddard each posted six points with freshman Amanda Bednarick contributing four points to the winning effort.

The Cadets were led by Arianna Harrison who posted a career and game high 32 points for her team in a truly impressive performance. Harrison pulled down nine boards, three assists two steals and one block on the night.

Norwich jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first six minutes of the contest only to see a Johnson close the gap and come back to tie the first quarter up 14-14. The Cadets posted the first points of the second quarter and again, the Badgers closed the gap and tied things up 17-17. After knotting things up, the Badgers let the Cadets get out ahead of them, trailing by as many as six points with five minutes to play in the half. Johnson battled back to end the half up, 32-29.

The Badgers opened the second half with a 6-0 run, but Vanessa Fluery's lay-up halted the momentum. By the end of the third period, the Badgers had solidified their lead, heading into the final quarter ahead, 52-47.  Despite the Cadets' best efforts the Badgers worked up their lead to as many as 12 points in the final ten minutes of the game, sealing the deal with a final score of 71-61.

Johnson will return to action Saturday for the team's first conference match of the year when it hosts New England College for a 1:00pm tip-off. Norwich will return to action when it travels to Bay Path on December 4th for a 6:00pm game.
