Eagles Roll to 80-55 Victory Over Badgers

Chandler Guerrette scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Eagles to a 80-55 victory over Johnson State in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday afternoon inside Newman Gym.

Husson (15-5, 13-1 NAC) wins its third-straight game, while Johnson State (9-12, 6-8 NAC) drops its 23rd straight game to the Eagles and falls to 2-25 in the all-time series.

Kasey DeGreenia capped a 13-8 run by the Badgers to the start game with a jump shot before the Eagles closed out the first quarter on 11-3 run and took a 19-16 lead into the second quarter that was sparked by a basket byRebecca Young with 5:12 remaining in the quarter. Young contributed six points, one board and one block, while Nicole Menard added five points and one assist for the Badgers.

The Eagles put together a 26-13 scoring outburst in the second quarter as Guerrette, Darla Morales, Kenzie Worcester, Victoria McIntyre, Miranda Drinkwater, and Kelsie Richards accounted for all the offense as Husson took a 45-29 lead into the intermission.

Guerrette led the Eagles in the first two quarters with 15 points, and two steals, while McIntyre charted nine points and Morales and Young added six points each. The Badgers were led by Menard who added seven points, while Ashley Goodard led all players in the half with six boards.

The Badgers tried to claw their way back into game in the second half, but only could cut the Husson lead to 25 points as the Eagles pulled away in the closing minutes of the game for the victory.

The Eagles' defense held Johnson State to 27.5 percent shooting, while forcing 23 turnovers in the win.  

Guerrette finished the game with four boards, three assists and two steals to go along with her game-high 15 points, while McIntyre added 14 points and a team-high nine boards and Young contributed 10 points and Worcester charted nine points.

Goodard led the Badgers with a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards, while DeGreenia added 10 points, and nine boards and Menard contributed nine points.

Husson recognized two seniors at halftime of the game for their accomplishments with the Husson University women's basketball program: Rebecca Young and Victoria McIntyre.

The Eagles will return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Bates College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game while the Badgers host Colby-Sawyer for a 5:30 p.m. North Atlantic Conference game on Wednesday.
