Johnson Takes Second Game of Mustang Classic

NEWTON, MASS. – The Johnson State College women's basketball team defeated Bay Path University 83-59 in their second game of the Mustang Classic, hosted by Mount Ida College, on Sunday afternoon.

Improve to 2-1 on the season, while Bay Path stays winless at 0-3.

1st Quarter

Johnson jumped out to an early 10-3 lead, before Bay Path came back to bring the score to 15-13 Badgers at the end of the first.  Ashley Goddard (Jamaica, Vt.) paced the Badgers with six points in the opening frame.

2nd Quarter

The Badgers steadily pulled ahead in the second, outscoring the Wildcats 21-9 to go into halftime ahead 36-22. Goddard led the Badgers with 11 points in the half, while Domonique Carter-Stanley added eight more.  

3rd Quarter

Johnson State continued to extend their lead in the third quarter, which ended with Johnson leading 62-39. Goddard was once again Johnson's leading scorer, recording 11 points in the period.

4th Quarter

The Badgers closed out the contest edging out the Wildcats 21-20 in the fourth quarter.

Johnson Leaders

Goddard was Johnson's leading scorer with a career high 24 points. Freshman Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel, Vt.) led the Badgers off the bench with twelve points. Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.), Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.), and Goddard each collected six rebounds to lead the Badgers.

Bay Path Leaders

Brenna Roy and Dallas Jackson led Bay Path with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Bay Path had three players with five assists, and Jackson led the team with five assists.

Stat Breakdown

Johnson outshot Bay Path from the field by a margin of 47.9% to 38.6%, while outrebounding the Wildcats 41-28. Johnson also won the turnover battle 22-19, and capitalized on those giveaways with 26 points off turnovers.
