Johnson Dropped by Norwich, 61-48

NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Johnson State College women's basketball team was defeated by Norwich University 61-48 in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening.

The Badgers fall to 2-4, while Norwich improves to 4-3 on the season.

1st Quarter

The teams held a slow offensive pace in the first period, with Norwich holding an 11-8 lead after the first ten minutes. Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn.) scored half of Johnson's eight with four points in the quarter.

2nd Quarter

Offense was once again hard to come by in the second, with only 12 points being scored between the two teams. Norwich took a 20-11 lead into the break.

3rd Quarter

The pace picked up out of halftime with Norwich going on a 12-5 run over the first five minutes of the period. The quarter would end with Norwich holding a 41-23 lead. Kaitlyn Brouard (Milton, Vt.) provided a spark off the bench for Johnson, scoring five in the third.

4th Quarter

The Cadets held their lead in the fourth, despite Johnson pulling within eight midway through the period. The score would end 61-48 in favor of Norwich.

Johnson Leaders

Carter-Stanley and Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) led the all scorers with 15 points each. Voorhis also hauled in 11 rebounds to record the double-double.

Nichols Leaders

The Cadets had four players score double digits, including 14 each from Kayla Mercer and Heather LeBlanc. LeBlanc also pulled in a team high eight rebounds.

Stat Breakdown

The teams shot nearly even from the field, with Norwich holding a 36.7% to 35.2% advantage. The Cadets also outshot Johnson from 3-point range, 26.7% to 16.7%. Norwich was strong on the glass, collecting 45 rebounds to Johnson's 28. The Cadets also took advantage of their free throw opportunities, going 21-26 from the stripe compared to the Badger's 7-15.
