POULTNEY, VT. - The Johnson State College women's basketball team defeated Green Mountain College 72-49 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon.
The Badgers improve to 4-4 on the season and 2-1 in the NAC, while Green Mountain stays winless at 0-6, 0-5 NAC.
1st Quarter
Johnson jumped out quickly to a 10-0 lead. The Badgers would continue to lead through the quarter, which ended with a 16-9 score. Ashley Goddard (Jamaica, Vt.) paced the Badgers with eight points in the opening frame.
2nd Quarter
The Badgers steadily pulled ahead in the second, outscoring the Wildcats 16-10 to go into halftime ahead 32-19. Nicole Menard (Milton, Vt.) led Johnson in the quarter with six points.
3rd Quarter
The Eagles kept pace in the third, being outscored by a narrow 14-12 margin, with Johnson taking a 46-31 lead into the fourth. Suzanna Moses led Green Mountain in the period with six points.
4th Quarter
The Badgers closed out the Eagles in the fourth, outscoring the home team 26-18 to bring the final score to 72-49.
Johnson Leaders
Goddard was Johnson's leading scorer with 14 points and also added four rebounds and four assists. Menard chipped in 13 points of her own, while Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) pulled in a team high 10 rebounds.
Green Mountain Leaders
Mercedes Rideout picked up a game high 15 points, with Moses adding 14 off the bench. Taylor Hill tacked on 12 points and collected a game high 12 rebounds.
Stat Breakdown
Johnson outshot Green Mountain 35.1% to 29.2%, while the Eagles edged the Badgers 35.0% to 33.3% from beyond the arc. The Badgers crashed the boards for a 58-49 advantage, while forcing 17 turnovers and committing 12 of their own.
