JOHNSON, VT. - The Johnson State College women's basketball team fell to Colby-Sawyer College 74-56 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Tuesday evening at Carter Gym.
The Badgers drop to 4-5 on the season and 2-2 in the NAC, while Colby-Sawyer goes to 8-3, 4-1 NAC.
1st Quarter
Colby-Sawyer jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead in the first five minutes of the quarter. The Badgers closed the gap, taking a 14-13 lead with 2:21 remaining in the opening frame. The Chargers pulled back ahead and held an 18-17 lead after one. Ally Mignault led all scorers in the period, picking up six for the Chargers, while Ladona Quinn (Hartford, Conn.) led Johnson off the bench with five.
2nd Quarter
The teams stayed even through most of the second, with Quinn hitting a jumper in the closing seconds to pull the score even at 33 going into the break. Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) led the Badgers with five points in the second.
3rd Quarter
Colby-Sawyer pulled ahead in the third, outscoring the Badgers 26-12 in the period to take a 59-45 lead into the fourth. Lexi Iannone led Colby-Sawyer in the period with eight points, while Amanda Calvo added seven. Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn.) put up five in the third for Johnson.
4th Quarter
The Badgers kept pace in the fourth, but were unable to mount a comeback and fell 74-56. DeGreenia led all scorers in the quarter with seven points.
Johnson Leaders
Johnson was led by DeGreenia, who scored a game high 18 points while pulling in seven rebounds. Quinn and Carter-Stanley each added nine points for Johnson.
Colby-Sawyer Leaders
Calvo led her team with 14 points and picked up nine rebounds. Kristin Ellis hauled in a game high 12 rebounds while chipping in five points. Iannone and Lexie Hamilton added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Stat Breakdown
Colby-Sawyer outshot Johnson 40.3% to 31.3%, while hitting 33.3% from beyond the arc compared to the Badgers 23.5%. The Chargers dominated the glass, outrebounding the home team 54-32. Both teams took care of the ball, with Johnson holding a slight edge in turnovers forced, 16-12.
