Maine Maritime Pushes Past Badgers, 67-56

CASTINE, MAINE - The Johnson State College women's basketball team dropped a 67-56 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest to Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon.

The Badgers fall to 6-8 on the season and 3-5 in the NAC, while the Mariners move to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

1st Quarter

The Mariners controlled the lead early, holding a 16-8 advantage midway through the opening quarter. MMA ended the first up 22-14. Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn.) paced Johnson with eight points in the quarter.

2nd Quarter

Maine Maritime held their lead through the second, leading by as much as 13 in the quarter, and taking a 35-24 advantage into halftime.

3rd Quarter

The Mariners continued to dominate in the third quarter, leading by 18 at the end of the frame, 53-35.

4th Quarter

The Badgers battled back, outscoring the Mariners 21-14 in the final quarter, but the Mariners hung on for the 67-56 victory. Kasey DeGreenia led Johnson in the final quarter with six points.

Johnson Leaders

Carter-Stanley led the Badgers with 14 points, three rebounds, two steals, and a block and DeGreenia tallied a double-double of 12 points, 12 rebounds three assists, and a steal.

Husson Leaders

Alayne Felix and Chloe Smedley ended the game with 14 points each, Smedley added seven rebounds, two steals, and an assist and Felix added five rebounds, two steals and an assist. Caitlin Kane added 10 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal, off the bench.

Stat Breakdown

MMA edged Johnson in field goal percentage by a margin of 38.3% to 34.5%, while the Badgers shot just 13.3% to Maine Maritime's 35.7% from three-point range. Rebounds were close with MMA holding a 42-35 edge, while Johnson turned the ball over 18 times to the Mariners 22.
