Pilgrims Cruise Past Badgers, 57-38

JOHNSON, VT. - The Johnson State College women's basketball team dropped a 57-38 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest to New England College on Tuesday evening at Carter Gym.

The Badgers fall to 6-9 on the season and 3-6 in the NAC, while the Pilgrims move to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

1st Quarter

After a slow first four minutes, the pace quickened with NEC taking the early 8-4 lead midway through the quarter. A three-pointer by Kaitlyn Brouard (Milton, Vt.) with under a minute left in the first gave Johnson the 13-11 lead after one. Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn.) and Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) led the Badgers with four points each in the quarter.

2nd Quarter

The teams traded leads in throughout the second, with NEC holding the 26-24 edge heading into the break. Carter-Stanley lead all scorers in the second with seven points, while Tiffany Davis led NEC with four.

3rd Quarter

The Pilgrims pulled ahead in the third, going on an 18-4 run in the quarter to take a 44-28 lead into the fourth. Rene Hudson paced NEC in the third with 10 points.

4th Quarter

New England College maintained their lead in the fourth, ending the game with a 57-38 advantage to take the victory. Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) led Johnson in the quarter with six points, while Mikala Malboeuf scored seven off the bench for NEC.

Johnson Leaders

Carter-Stanley led the Badgers with 11 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds. DeGreenia added ten more points while collecting six rebounds.

NEC Leaders

Malboeuf scored a game high 16 for the Pilgrims, pulling in nine rebounds. Hudson added 15 more and recorded five rebounds and two assists.

Stat Breakdown

The Pilgrims outshot Johnson by a 36.2% to 27.3% margin. Both teams struggled from distance, with NEC holding a 16.7% to 9.1% advantage in three-point percentage. NEC was strong on the glass, outrebounding Johnson 60-33, while the Badgers forced 22 turnovers and committed 19.
