Goddard's Last-Second Three Powers Badgers past Lyndon in OT

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's basketball team defeated Lyndon State College 83-82 in an overtime thriller on Saturday afternoon in Carter Gym.

The Badgers improve to 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Lyndon falls to 6-9 on the season and 3-7 in the NAC.

1st Quarter

A made jump shot from Lyndon's Gabrielle Foy, which cut their deficit to two, would be the closest the Hornets would come to the Badgers in the first quarter as Johnson went on a tear and outscore Lyndon 21-8 in the opening stanza. Johnson was led by Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) who had seven points, three rebounds, and three steals. Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn) also contributed with six points and had four rebounds.

2nd Quarter

Both teams went back and forth until the 3:24 mark when a Ladona Quinn (Hartford, Conn.) made free throw sparked the Badgers to close out the half on a 7-1 run. Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) led the Badgers with six points while Carter-Stanley tacked on five of her own.

3rd Quarter

The Badgers came out strong from the break, pushing their lead to 53-28 with just over seven minutes to go. Lyndon would then claw back and go on an 18-9 run to cut the Badger lead to 16 at the end of the quarter. Johnson was led by Ashley Goddard (Jamaica, Vt.) who had 11 points in the quarter.

4th Quarter

The Badgers came into the quarter sluggish, allowing the Hornets to go on an impressive 28-10 run and take a 73-72 lead with just :53 seconds left in regulation. DeGreenia would make a jump shot but it was answered by Roy's pair of free throw makes to tie the game at 75 and send it into overtime.

Overtime

Lyndon scored five straight points coming into the extra period, but five made free throws from the Badgers would have the game tied back up at 80 with 1:13 remaining. Mikayla Hodge was fouled and made both of her free throws to give Lyndon a two-point advantage with just :13 seconds left. With just seconds remaining, DeGreena found Goddard in the corner who sank a three to give the Badgers a thrilling 83-82 victory over the Hornets.

Johnson Leaders

DeGreena led the Badgers with a double-double, putting up 24 points and pulling down 17 rebounds. Ashley Goddard also recorded a double-double with 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Carter-Stanley contributed 15 points, five steals, and five rebounds while Voorhis added 11 points in the Badger victory.

Lyndon Leaders
