Badgers Pull Past Terriers, 48-43

WATERVILLE, MAINE – The Johnson State College women's basketball team defeated Thomas College 48-43 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Friday evening.

The Badgers improve to 8-9 overall and 5-6 in the NAC, while Thomas falls to 5-13 on the season and 2-9 in the conference.

1st Quarter

The teams stayed close through the early portions of the first, with Johnson tying the game at nine with 3:23 left in the frame. Johnson scored five straight to take a 14-9 lead to the start of the second. Ashley Goddard (Jamaica, Vt.) paced the Badgers with five points, while Amira Jones led Thomas with four.

2nd Quarter

Thomas kept things even through the second, with neither team able to take a multi-possession lead through the quarter. Johnson would end the half with a 27-25 edge. Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn.) led Johnson with six points in the quarter.  

3rd Quarter

The Badgers gradually increased their lead in the third, outscoring Thomas 12-4 in the quarter to take a 39-29 lead into the final quarter.

4th Quarter

The Terriers pulled back in the fourth, bringing the score to 45-41 with 2:45 remaining in the game. The Badgers held them off, however, taking the 48-43 victory. Carter-Stanley led Johnson with five points in the quarter, while Jones and Karli Stubbs each picked up six for Thomas.

Johnson Leaders

Carter-Stanley paced the Badgers with 15 points and six steals. Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H.) picked up ten more and pulled in nine rebounds. Kasey DeGreenia (Concord, Vt.) hauled in a game high 15 rebounds for Johnson.

Thomas Leaders

Jones picked up 12 points and six rebounds for Thomas, while Stubbs added nine more. Jordan Turner pulled in a team high seven rebounds for Thomas.

Stat Breakdown

Thomas outshot Johnson 32.0% to 27.9% from the field, while also holding a 23.5% to 14.3% advantage from three-point range. Johnson held the 43-40 edge in rebounds by a 43-40 margin. Johnson committed 17 turnovers while forcing 24.
