DeGreenia's Record Performance Hands Husson First Conference Loss

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's basketball team handed Husson University their first conference loss of the season in an 80-70 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Saturday afternoon at Carter Gym.

The Badgers improve to 10-10 overall and 7-7 in the NAC, while the Eagles go to 17-2 on the season and 13-1 in the conference.

1st Quarter

Johnson jumped out to the quick lead with a Domonique Carter-Stanley (Norwalk, Conn.) layup off the opening tip-off. The teams traded leads through the quarter, with Husson taking control towards the end of the period and taking a 24-19 lead after one. Chandler Guerrette and Carter-Stanley led their teams with eight points each in the quarter.

2nd Quarter

The Badgers hung in through the second, refusing to be put away by the Eagles. Husson would take a 36-30 lead into the break. Voorhis picked up four for Johnson in the quarter, while Sami Ireland scored seven off the bench for the Eagles.

3rd Quarter

Johnson took control in the third quarter, with a Carter-Stanley layup putting the Badgers up 44-43 with 6:21 remaining in the quarter. Johnson held off the Husson surge and took a 57-53 lead into the fourth. Ashley Goddard (Jamaica, Vt.) led the Johnson push with 12 points in the quarter, while Guerrette put in eight for Husson.

4th Quarter

The teams battled back and forth through the majority of the fourth, with six lead changes through the first five minutes. A Sarah Voorhis (Nashua, N.H) free throw with 5:01 left broke a 65-65 tie and gave Johnson the lead for good. The Badgers went on to take the 80-70 victory.

Johnson Leaders

Kasey DeGreenia had a career performance scoring a personal-best 26 points and hauling in a program-record 23 rebounds. DeGreenia was joined by Goddard with a 21 point, 10 rebound double-double. Carter-Stanley added on 20 more points and dished out five assists.

Husson Leaders

Guerrette led Husson with 21 points and seven rebounds. Kenzie Worcester added 16 points and five rebounds.

Stat Breakdown

Johnson shot 38.4% from the field to Husson's 30.5%, while the Eagles shot 28.0% from three-point range to Johnson's 20.0%. Johnson pulled in 59 rebounds to Husson's 40, while the Eagles forced 25 turnovers to Johnson's 16.
